Chrome Web Store release available
Version 1.0.0 is published on the Chrome Web Store. The 1.0.1 update was submitted on September 9, 2026 and is awaiting review, with automatic publication after approval. It updates the product name and summary; extension behavior is unchanged. PasteLatch is free, with no payment or subscription required.
Install from the Chrome Web Store
Open the store listing in desktop Chrome and choose Add to Chrome. Pin PasteLatch from the extensions menu, then try the synthetic demo.
Manual preview installation
For an unpacked preview of version 1.0.1, use the package below.
- Unzip the downloaded file into a folder you will keep.
- In desktop Chrome, open
chrome://extensions. - Turn on Developer mode, choose Load unpacked, and select the folder containing
manifest.json. - Pin PasteLatch from Chrome’s extensions menu for easy access.
- Open the synthetic demo. Click PasteLatch’s toolbar icon, choose Enable on this site, and approve access to this host.
- Copy the 1,200-character sample and paste it into the demo field. A separate extension notice should show the 200 characters that were cut.
Manual installations do not receive Chrome Web Store updates. Replace the unpacked folder with a later release and click Reload in Chrome’s extension manager. Reloading or updating the extension clears session recovery, so preserve needed originals first.
Review and recover
Choose Open recovery from the warning or toolbar. The review page shows matching and changed pastes, the missing or unexpected text, and the last observation time. Choose Copy original paste to recover the clipboard text or Copy intended field to include the surrounding text and selection replacement.
Copying does not change a portal field. Check the portal’s length limit and decide how to revise your answer yourself. If copying is blocked, open Full recovery text and copy with your keyboard.
What each result means
- Matched when checked: the visible field matched the intended paste at the recorded observation. It is a snapshot, not a promise that the value will remain.
- Change detected: the visible value differs. Missing and unexpected characters are shown with labels and colors.
- Check incomplete: the original paste was captured, but a resulting field observation was not verified.
No result is a save or submission receipt. For your own save verification, reopen the saved form or inspect a portal-generated preview and compare it with your source. PasteLatch does not automatically verify reopened forms, previews, backend persistence, or submission.

For additional synthetic controls, open the compatibility test fixture. It includes ordinary, script-truncated, reset, and Unicode-normalized fields. It is a practice page; use synthetic answers only.
When it can miss a change
Monitoring ends on intentional edits, navigation, field removal, deletion, or site disable. It cannot follow a field that a portal replaces with a new element. Hidden pages are not polled until visible again; very brief changes between observations may be missed. Portal controls that intentionally rewrite answers can look like changes; review the result in context. A portal that intercepts browser events unusually may prevent the extension from seeing a paste.
No notice does not itself prove integrity. Open recovery and check whether the paste was actually observed. PasteLatch does not bypass field limits, restore text automatically, press Save, or submit applications.
Delete or turn off
Use the recovery page’s per-record Delete control or Delete all recovery copies. Use Disable this site in the toolbar or recovery page to stop checks there. Remove PasteLatch in Chrome’s extension manager to uninstall it. Recovery is limited to the current browser session; keep your approved source document.
Why this exists
Elk Grove’s January 2025 WebGrants training warns about pasted text being cut off and navigation not saving automatically. The linked original training PDF was unavailable when checked for this release. A currently public WebGrants counter script also contains length-based truncation. That establishes a plausible failure mechanism, not compatibility with every portal or authenticated form.
