Privacy policy

PasteLatch processes application text locally to check whether a paste survived the transfer.

What the extension handles

On a site you explicitly enable, PasteLatch responds to a user-initiated paste into a supported plain text field. It reads that paste, the field’s existing text and selection, the resulting field text, a short field label, and the site’s origin (scheme, hostname, and port). It records the time and result of the check. It does not retain full page URLs, query strings, unrelated fields, or a general log of pages you visit. Its enabled-site list and recovery records do contain the relevant site origins.

Application answers may contain personal or confidential information, including names and telephone numbers. PasteLatch processes that selected text, paste/check activity, and limited site information only to perform the transfer check and provide recovery. It does not determine or remove sensitive meaning from narrative text. It does not analyze writing quality, use an AI service, or send answers to UtilityServices or another server.

Recovery and retention

Original pasted text, intended complete field text, observed text, labels, origins, and check results are held in Chrome’s storage.session, which is in-memory extension storage. Recovery is not synchronized or intentionally written to a disk archive by PasteLatch. Browser and operating-system memory management remain outside the extension’s control.

Recovery ends when the browser restarts, or the extension is disabled, reloaded, updated, or removed. Reloading a website during the same browser session normally preserves the extension’s recovery copies. A maximum of 30 recent checks and a 4 MB storage budget apply; older checks may be removed to stay within those limits. Each paste and resulting field must be at most 50,000 UTF-16 code units.

You can delete a single recovery copy or choose Delete all recovery copies from the recovery page. Deletion also ends the associated field watch. The enabled-site list is stored locally across browser sessions, without answer text. Disabling a site stops future checks; existing recovery copies remain until deleted or the browser session ends.

What it does not collect

There is no continuous clipboard access, clipboard history, keystroke logging, advertising, analytics SDK, telemetry, account, cloud sync, sale of data, or remote code in the extension. It excludes password fields, standard payment autocomplete fields, and fields whose identifying metadata indicates credentials, payment details, or selected sensitive identifiers. It cannot guarantee that a portal has correctly labeled a sensitive field. Only paste application narrative text you want checked.

Permissions

There is no clipboardRead permission. Clicking a recovery copy button writes the selected text to your system clipboard. Other software with clipboard access may then read it, as with any text you copy.

Website and support

The public demo uses a fixed synthetic sample and compares values in page memory. It does not upload or persist text entered in the demo. This website has no analytics or advertising scripts. The hosting provider necessarily processes ordinary requests, such as IP address and requested URL, to deliver the pages; its infrastructure policies govern that processing. If you email support, the publisher and email providers receive the information you voluntarily send. Please send a synthetic reproduction, browser version, and extension version; omit real application answers, passwords, financial information, and applicant data.

PasteLatch uses information only to provide its disclosed paste-checking and recovery features and complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

For privacy questions or support, contact UtilityServices at aqs.aqs7726@gmail.com. Because the publisher does not receive extension recovery data, use the extension’s deletion controls to remove it. Material changes to these practices will be reflected here and in the extension’s disclosures.
